Feras, a young man living in Gaza, and the oldest son of a family of six lives with the stress of caring for his family during a genocide. With the borders opening very infrequently and food, water, soap, and medicine being an incredibly limited supply, Feras tries his best to collect money to buy these precious items for his family. Prices are incredibly high and feeding six people can cost a fortune. Right now, Feras’ family lives off old dry bread and cheese. This is barely enough to help keep their bodies strong and able to withstand these horrible daily circumstances. The weather is getting colder and with only their tent to protect them from the winter, and with limited access to medicine and nutrients, getting sick can be incredibly dangerous.
Feras’s family wants him and his oldest sister, Lamis to evacuate from Gaza and go to Egypt where they can pursue a higher education and study medicine, to secure their future and support their family in Gaza from Egypt. Evacuation costs are incredibly high, $5,000-$7,000 per person and it is impossible to afford for all six of them to evacuate and continue to purchase food, water, soap, and medicine while they wait for the border to open again. For this reason, only Feras and his sister, Lamis can evacuate.
